Display resolution

The display resolution of a computer display typically refers to the number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed &is simply the physical number of columns and rows of pixels creating the display (e.g., 12806x768). It can be an ambiguous term especially as the displayed resolution is controlled by all different factors in cathode ray tube (CRT) & flat panel or projection displays using fixed picture-element (pixel) arrays.
A consequence of having a fixed grid display is that for multiformat video inputs all displays need a "scaling-engine" (a digital video processor that includes a memory array) to match the incoming picture format to the display.
Computers have higher resolutions:LCD monitors have only one native display resolution - the highest available on that particular monitor. When users select a lower resolution, the lower resolution is reported to the statistics gathering website. Nevertheless, the actual number of pixels in front of the user has not changed. Instead, interruption in the monitor causes the picture to become fuzzy as it attempts to display an image of the wrong resolution by scaling it.

G|logster

Today we researched a site called www.glogster.com its a form of social networking. To make full use of this website you are asked to register.Once you've done that you can use the many features (e.g. photos, graphics, audio, text & video) to express your moods, feelings and ideas.
It's a whole new world to communication all you have to do is choose a background, throw in some shapes and characters from their gallery (or upload your own), add text, your own videos and maybe even a little bit of music.
Within minutes you can create a digital poster, a colourful medley of ideas reflecting your own style or personality.

Planning a journey.

So the task for this lesson was to plan a journey from your hometown to Alton Tower, Manchester. Since I don't actually live there and therefore don't have an address i used Livvy's address(TN6 2PW).We were then asked to compare the journey by car & by rail.
Some of the sources i used to get my information:

This last one was the most helpful of all the sites because...it gives me exact details to where i should go from the address TN6 2PW & this website also tells me how long it will take me to reach each checkpoint. For example i know now that it would take me 5mins from the bus station to Crowborough Rail Station. The entire duration of the journey would be 6 hours 23mins.

Use Usenet newsgroups

Task: Find a discussion on 'Google Groups'.Reflect on how useful you find these discussions.
http://groups.google.com/group/art?lnk=
this site deffinately fulfils its purpose because there is alot of activity going on.Also the content in this group consists of a wide variation on different topics e.g. watercolour painting or you can exhitbit your work: http://groups.google.com/group/art/browse_thread/thread/64cb7d2dc8e7e284#
On this site Carol Pentleton allows you to register her site and on her sitehttp://www.thedigitalartist.com she has a large amount of educational materials, including art education videos, career information, job postings, daily headlines, free monthly newsletters & articles about the business of art.

Limitation:required to join the site, could be annoying if someone just wants quick information about a certain topic.
Benefit:Registering is really easy.Requiring to register suggests they take this group seriously and don't want inappropriate information/artwork on their site.

SMS haiku message.

3 ways of communication:
- using SMS on your phone
- using a chat service (Gmail, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo)
- using email(Gmail, Yahoo, Windows Live Messenger)

Email sent to Livvi:
I love you, you know
Come back to me I miss you
Please don’t leave me again.

SMS conversation with Livvy:

Coversation with Livvy using Chat Service (MSN Messenger):

I thought using the chat service was the most efficient in this excercise. This was mainly due to its incredibly fast rate.I didn't like using SMS because it costs money & it takes longer to type out sometimes.I didn't like using email because again there can be a wait & sometimes there might be problems whilst sending, also you would have to constantly refresh the page to see if the email has turned up or not.

How E-mail Works.

Its use has grown exponentially as the internet has developed.Using emailis quite simple. Essentially a message is sent to an individual post box on a mail server where it waits untial an email client( an email client is a program run by a user to send and receive email)picks it up. To use email it is necessary to have a connection to an email server (which manages the distribution and storage of the emails) and to have an email client. A client is a program such as Outlook Express on a computer connected to the internet or a browser-based client such as the email service provided online by websites like Hotmail or Yahoo. Email can now also be used on a mobile phone connected using GPRS, WAP or even SMS. Internet users send hundreds of millions of e-mail messages to one another every day, and the majority are business-related. E-mail has become so popular it has replaced other forms of communication like posting or telephone.
Sending Mail
- When you send an e-mail message, your e-mail program connects to your Internet service provider's mail server.

- Your message might be broken into smaller pieces or packets.

- These smaller packets can travel more quickly from server to server, and are reassembled when they reach their destination.

Sorting the Mail
E-mail messages are sorted by domain. For the e-mail address feedback@allbusiness.com, for example, the domain is the allbusiness.com portion. The domain identifies where the message needs to go.

E-books

So for ICT homework our teacher asked us to research e-books. For those who don't know e-books are basically books that can be viewed online. The whole point of the homework was to research the different types of e-books, what works and what doesn't so that when we come to create our e-books we already know what looks awesome!
One of the books i researched was the secret http://thesecret.tv/secret-treasures-ebooks.html I found that the navigation was very straight forward along with instructions to download e-book.The colour schemes used one the web page was similar to the actual book this promotes recognition.Though the book is not suitable for younger reader there is lack of pictures. On the other hand i thought there were an infinite amount of hyperlinks (this can be complicated at times & time consuming for less advanced viewers).Overall i thought that e-books aren’t exactly expected to be user-friendly since it is basically provides an alternate reading choice for lovers of technology.
Another book that i researched was the killer applications http://www.killer-apps.com/ The format & colour schemes used are bright & attractive. There is a choice of either enabling or disabling the use of java which allows you to view images in 3D.Images: subtle & small but they still fulfil their purpose of sending across the message.Hover Menu: allows you to either read the entire book or simple view a couple of chapters. But the down side is that when reading the chapters scrolling is a nuisance.Overall view: excellent layout, everything is in clear readable font with colours that don’t hurt your eyes. The downloading speed is swift & you don’t have to go through several steps to get to a certain chapter.

First Post /.

As directed by the Applied ICT book by Edexcel (GCE) page 3 Activity 1 i was asked to create my own blog.To do that i had to type in an existing e-mail address & password. Then decide on a display name (Leesh 24x7 (the name used to sign my blog posts)) & password. Then there is the word verification(type in the word you see in the box on the left)& then you have to accept the terms of service. The second step was to create a blog title (Leesh 24x7).The you had to create a Blog address (URL) & then finally choose your template (Minima Black).
Much Love,
Lishey x
