G|logster

Today we researched a site called www.glogster.com its a form of social networking. To make full use of this website you are asked to register.Once you've done that you can use the many features (e.g. photos, graphics, audio, text & video) to express your moods, feelings and ideas.
It's a whole new world to communication all you have to do is choose a background, throw in some shapes and characters from their gallery (or upload your own), add text, your own videos and maybe even a little bit of music.
Within minutes you can create a digital poster, a colourful medley of ideas reflecting your own style or personality.

Planning a journey.

So the task for this lesson was to plan a journey from your hometown to Alton Tower, Manchester. Since I don't actually live there and therefore don't have an address i used Livvy's address(TN6 2PW).We were then asked to compare the journey by car & by rail.
Some of the sources i used to get my information:

This last one was the most helpful of all the sites because...it gives me exact details to where i should go from the address TN6 2PW & this website also tells me how long it will take me to reach each checkpoint. For example i know now that it would take me 5mins from the bus station to Crowborough Rail Station. The entire duration of the journey would be 6 hours 23mins.

http://groups.google.com/group/art?lnk=
this site deffinately fulfils its purpose because there is alot of activity going on.Also the content in this group consists of a wide variation on different topics e.g. watercolour painting or you can exhitbit your work: http://groups.google.com/group/art/browse_thread/thread/64cb7d2dc8e7e284#
On this site Carol Pentleton allows you to register her site and on her sitehttp://www.thedigitalartist.com she has a large amount of educational materials, including art education videos, career information, job postings, daily headlines, free monthly newsletters & articles about the business of art.

Limitation:required to join the site, could be annoying if someone just wants quick information about a certain topic.
Benefit:Registering is really easy.Requiring to register suggests they take this group seriously and don't want inappropriate information/artwork on their site.

SMS conversation with Livvy:

Coversation with Livvy using Chat Service (MSN Messenger):

I thought using the chat service was the most efficient in this excercise. This was mainly due to its incredibly fast rate.I didn't like using SMS because it costs money & it takes longer to type out sometimes.I didn't like using email because again there can be a wait & sometimes there might be problems whilst sending, also you would have to constantly refresh the page to see if the email has turned up or not.

How E-mail Works.

Its use has grown exponentially as the internet has developed.Using emailis quite simple. Essentially a message is sent to an individual post box on a mail server where it waits untial an email client( an email client is a program run by a user to send and receive email)picks it up. To use email it is necessary to have a connection to an email server (which manages the distribution and storage of the emails) and to have an email client. A client is a program such as Outlook Express on a computer connected to the internet or a browser-based client such as the email service provided online by websites like Hotmail or Yahoo. Email can now also be used on a mobile phone connected using GPRS, WAP or even SMS. Internet users send hundreds of millions of e-mail messages to one another every day, and the majority are business-related. E-mail has become so popular it has replaced other forms of communication like posting or telephone.
Sending Mail
- When you send an e-mail message, your e-mail program connects to your Internet service provider's mail server.

- Your message might be broken into smaller pieces or packets.

- These smaller packets can travel more quickly from server to server, and are reassembled when they reach their destination.

Sorting the Mail
E-mail messages are sorted by domain. For the e-mail address feedback@allbusiness.com, for example, the domain is the allbusiness.com portion. The domain identifies where the message needs to go.
